Ok, this comes out in the next week or so. I've gone back and forth on it, but I think I've decided it should be interesting. I've always liked Sanlder in his roles talking giberish and what not, but this is a bit different. His role in this one actually kinda reminds me of his role in Big Daddy for some reason. I saw a 10 minute clip on aol today and thought about that. Anyway, how do you think it'll do?

I think it's potentially a big hit - the trailer promises Sandler's normal annoying baby-talk delivery wedged into a more interesting movie. It very well could appeal both to the people who like his usual crap and were confused by Punch-Drunk Love and those looking for an actual good movie.

But... "Introducing Paz Vega"? Introducing? Rassin-fracking provincial American audience...

I'm a fan of James L. Brooks, and this is my most anticipated movie of the year.

Adam Sandler was on Leno last night. Leno raved about the movie, calling it funny, smart, and well-written.

I think it'll receive an Oscar nomination for best picture.

AFAIK, Leno never says anything bad about movies when the stars are guests on his show.

That's true, but if Leno is raving about a movie, then he really does feel that way. If a movie is bad, then Leno will try to compliment an aspect of the movie or won't really say anything positive about it. For example, when the stars of Alexander were on, Leno said something about how the battle scenes were good and how it's a "grand epic."

I don't think I'll base my movie going decisions on leno, but I guess it's good to know how he works. I think Spanglish has the potential with Sandler trying out this new role and of course with Brooks' involvement, that's a good thing.

And Paz Vega, who is ridiculously, insanely, phenomenally hot. Rent Sex and Lucia or watch her in the silent-movie sequence of Talk To Her.

(Of course, Brooks probably won't be quite so generous with the nudity as they were in Spain... ::sigh:: )

Brook's could have cast Pauly Shore and Carrot Top and I probably still would have ended up seeing it based on his writing/directing track record alone. But you can count me among those that hated Punch-Drunk Love, so I'm going in with significantly lowered expectations.

In advance, this seemed like it was going to be an incredible two or three months for me, with films from Brooks, Wes Anderson, Alexander Payne, David O Russell, Brad Bird & PIXAR, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Steven Soderbergh, Martin Scorsese, and Clint Eastwood. So far I've only managed to see Sideways, since The Incredibles is going to be a blind buy on DVD with all the bells and whistles included and I Heart Huckabees didn't exactly get good enough reviews for me to go see it. I hope Spanglish can find a favorable place among those other films in an already crowded winter box office.

I also am anxiously looking forward to the film. I have yet to be dissapointed by a James L. Brooks film.

I like the idea of the movie. It's somewhat different than really anything this year. And with Sandler playing that role, it'll be interesting to see how it works. With Vega, Teoni, and Leachman in it as well, it's bound to be pretty good.

I love James L. Brooks' moves including Terms of Endearment and Broacast News but like Punch Drunk Love Adam Sandler will probably keep me and most people I know away.

There's a sneak preview this Saturday.

In yesterday's LA Times, there was a positive article about James Brooks. It talked about how he's under pressure for Spanglish to be a hit because of how risky it is as an adult-oriented comedy/drama and few directors his age get a second chance if they make a flop. He's extremely involved in his movies and demanding of his cast/crew, a perfectionist. One of the reasons he's been able to thrive is that he's original.

As for the movie, the article mentioned that the movie contains Brook's signature of comedy and drama, and a complex mother-daughter relationship.

I wasn't entirely sold until the ten minute clip that's online through, I believe, moviefone. It's much more interesting than the bland trailers make it out to be.

Thanks for the comment on the clip, Adam. I watched it, and now I definitely plan to see this.

Man, I just have a hard time believing that a director with James L. Brooks' track record wouldn't get a second chance.

Thing is, he has a track record of making good films, not of making bazillions at the box office. I'm a big fan of I'll Do Anything and will definitely be seeing this one.

Terms of Endearment and As Good as it Gets did great business and Broadcast News did very well with $51 million back in 1987. I'll Do Anything is his only box-office failure. His films aim at the same demographic that made Nancy Myers' What Women Want and Something's Gotta Give big hits.

All of Brooks' stuff has been solid. A friend of mine went to a screening last night and said it was good. She said there were definitely some funny parts, but also some good serious stuff. Evidently Sandler did well, as did Leachman. She said you will hate Leoni's character by the end, but she did a fine job of portraying that role. She basically said it was a good movie.

I was definetly one of those confused by "Punch Drunk Love". I had even gotten to a point of not caring for the same Sandler over and over. I thnk this is diffrent and will be seeing it. Especially since I speak Spanglish...:D
