I noticed this too. He doesnt stop long enough to have you experience the emotion. He was good at that on TV but maybe thought it was too much for a new audience?
I enjoyed the movie but it did seem like he was trying to amp up the action so non Firefly fans would be content. In the process he has lost some of what was so good about the show and that is the intimacy of the character moments.
Still a really good film in my opinion. In essence this is like the Peacekeeper wars for Farscape which I think was a bit more effective in terms of mixing the action and character moments.
We'll see how this does next week but I'm hoping we get another movie.
