I don't know if this has been addressed anywhere:

SD 4:3 discs are being stretched on my television, despite the HDMI connection, and my TV is a 1080i Panasonic. I cannot change the aspect ratio on the tv on HDMI input, and none of the visual settings on the player will correct the picture to its proper size.

This is not an issue with 480i/p supplements on BD.

I've tried all 3 TV aspect settings (4:3 standard, 4:3 letterbox, 16:9) and they all give the same result. 16:9 SD discs perform properly. Once again, this is using the HDMI connections, which should be correct by default. 4:3 materials on BD work correctly.

New Firmware upgrade (version 2.2 dated 2/21/08) addressed the problem I was having with the special features disc of POTC - AWE but I still see some problems with intermittent stalling and choppy dialogue and pictures on the special features disc. Seems like Samsung hasn't kept in touch with the producers of the DVD software...or at least that's how it appears. I should've gotten a PS3. Well, Caveat Emptor.

I can't believe how frustrating it is to own one of these players. I never know if the disc is going to play or not. Last night I tried Casino Royale and Crimson Tide, but both were rejected. I played an HD DVD on my Toshiba A2 and then tried Casino Royale again. It worked just fine.

I can't wait until the next batch of Bluray players are released so that I can give another brand a try.

This player has been frustrating but with firmware version 2.3, mine is playing everything I have tried. It is loading problematic discs much faster and playing the movie just fine. I don't ever bother with any special features, but might try to move around the menus and access some things just to see if it can do that. I normally just load the disc, skip the previews and start the movie. For that purpose, this player is now working great for me.

I have been having a lot of problems with "Dexter" Season 1.
I see that there is now a v2.5 revision of firmware available, so I guess I will give that a try.

Firmware version 2.5 is not the solution for Dexter or other problem discs based on what I have read. The player is terrible again, new releases are problematic, and I put mine back in the closet. I am grateful I have Sony players that actually load and play all discs.
