Seth,
Ron is fine. I've spotted nothing from Ric yet, so hope he, his family and friends are ok as I hope all with family and friends in and around the areas of destruction are.

My girlfriend works as an office manager for a lighting production company in New Jersey that does work for TV shows, commericals, interviews, etc. She told me that one of the company's freelancers was on her way to the World Trade Center for a shoot on the 91st floor of one of the towers when the planes hit. She was on the ferry between New Jersey and New York City when this all occurred, and the ferry turned back. Unfortunately, another freelancer she was going to meet had already arrived for the shoot and was presumably on the 91st floor at the time of the crash. That's all my girlfriend knows at this point.
On another note, it's times like this that I realize how special the Forum is. Home Theater Forum has well over 19,000 members, and while I suspect that few of us have met other members face-to-face, it is heartwarming to see the concern here for New York-area members. This is a great community. My thoughts and prayers are with New York-area members as well.

Everyone should display the American Flag on their homes, apt balconies or where ever, to show unity for the United States and in memory of all those people who lost their lives yesterday..

One of my wife's friends left yesterday for New York from here in Indiana. Her sister works on the 84th floor of one of the WTC towers and she does not know if her sister is alive. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved with this horrible tragedy.
May everyone who has perished Rest In Peace.

My sister-in-law's brother is a NYC Fireman. His unit was the first into the WTC. She hasn't heard anything yet.
Please say a prayer for him.

Well I am OK ... have lots of friends that work in the area downtown that made it but it was a real nightmare that still continues. I have lots of stories, too many to write ...
I usally drive into the city but yeasterday I got into a fender bender with a Traffic Cop a block away from my house and was stuck in the neighbourhood for 2 hours until 5 police cars showed up to asses the damage that was less than $100.
As we were working on this one of the sargeants gets out of his patrol car and tells me that it just came over the radio that a plane hit the WTC. All units were summoned. I never seen a cop turned WHITE like that before.
Needless to say I couldn't make it to work into Manhattan. I am not a religious person but that fender bender felt like a sign to me.
The world as a whole will re-evaluate itself after this for sure, as far as what our goals in life our and how precious things can be taken away from us in an instant.
My thoughts are with those that lost someone they loved...

My girlfriend, who works in Stamford at UBSW (nation's largest stock exchange), knew a number of people on the upper floors of Tower 1 and 2. One of her co-workers and best friends was in Tower 1 for the day on business and actually called right after the plane hit. He was on the phone for about 30 seconds, said there was an explosion, lots of panic, that smoke was everywhere and that he was very scared.
He hasn't been heard from since.
One of her friends that got out just before the first collapse says that he understands why the city isn't saying how many are likely dead. He estimates well over 10 thousand.
I am still in shock over this. I just pray our vengeance is unrelenting and unmerciful. Otherwise this will happen again.

This is a tragedy on a world wide scale. I feel for the families and friends of people missing. As well as the firefighters an police that lost their lives in the first collapse.
Lets hope this brings the world together.

I live in the Bronx, I learnt the news as I was coming off the shower at about 11. I imediately tried to call my daughter's mother who works 2-3 blocks away from the WTC... I couldn't reach her until the afternoon when she got home.
From her account she was going to her desk when she heard/felt the 1st shock. She gathered at the window with her coworkers dumbfounded at the sight: A gaping hole in the WTC - while I am sure everybody realise the seriousness of this, when you live in the city the thing looks/sounds absurd. They were right there watching when the second plane hit. they they ran out and she imediately got the hell out of the neighborhood. She still pretty shaken well into the night and would not come out of her appartment.
Needless to say I am glad she is OK. Though we pretty much don't get along, I would never wish anything like that to her. For now I know nobody else involved in this. Time will tell, but I dread the moment when I ask for someone, say at school, and hear they were down there and didn't make it.

MAYBE SOME GOOD NEWS.
I've just had a fairly reliable report from someone connected to Morgan Stanley (the WTC's single biggest occupant) that all of their people on site made it out of 2 WTC, which was the second building hit. Apparently, they began evacuating immediately after the first impact on Tower 1.
I really hope it's true.

Steven,
I'm so thankful your brother is okay.
Robert,
I'm so thankful your son is okay.
The Home Theater Forum has been an important source of information for me in the past, although it has been only recently I started posting again, largely due to intense work schedules.
It seems so appropriate that the community here has come together to share their grief and anger at these terrorist acts.
The greater New York/New Jersey area has great people and it will survive this. Indeed, I truly believe Mayor Giuliani when he says that the city will emerge even stronger than before. I see people across the nation coming together. There are efforts of assistance forming here in Atlanta at local churches.
My heart goes out to the brave emergency response people, firemen and police officers who continue to work the crime scene. My thoughts are every minute with the people who unjustly lost their lives in this national tradegy.
God bless,
Lee

Hi. (Before I commence with the events - Im not injured at all)
Until yesterday I worked in 7WTC (the building that collapsed in the afternoon) for Salomon Smith Barney. Most of our other departments are in another building in Tribeca.
I actually got to work a little earlier than usual yesterday since I went to vote in the primaries in the morning and there was noone on line.
Got to the office about 8:15 and was checking email/etc. and just got cup of coffee when I heard a crash and saw things falling. My window faces the towers and south so I saw (from 38th floor in my building) what was the result of the first crash - alot of things falling - cubicles walls/paper/etc.
Since some people in my dept were there in the bombing in 93 they knwo to evacuate. We were going to take the stairs, but saw an elevator open and we got in(in retrospect probably not the right thing to do in an emergency but we did it anyway). In the rush, I left some personl belongings in my office (like house keys/cell phone) which I thought I would see again in 1/2 hour.
Down in the lobby, we waited for 15-20 minutes where we didnt get any directions except to stay away from the glass front. Saw something else fall (probably a piece of metal from one of the airplanes) and we left down the escalator through the loading dock to the back of the building facing north.
Just kept walking north with some other colleagues. I turned around occasionally, only to see bodies either falling or jumping from one of the towers.
Kept walking - separated from colleagues as we all tried to get home in one way or another. No cell phones were working and most pay phones were not working either.
Finally reached a working payphone at 34th and Park and called my father to tell him Im OK and to call others.
Eventually walked up to 60th St and made it up and over the Queensboro Bridge to Queens and caught a subway home from there. Couldnt watch any TV, just paced around. When I finally turned on my TV I saw my office building collapse.
Im fine.
My colleagues son worked in Cantor & Fitzgerald on 103 of the 1 WTC building. His body is still not found.
Sorry for such a lengthy post. Thanks for listening.

I have been a paramedic in Oklahoma City for 11 years and was 2nd unit in on the bombing here. In many ways I can relate to these stories and in many ways not. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

Whew! I just heard from my brother-in-law in New York. We weren't able to get a hold of him and his wife yesterday. Both are fine. He works for Beth Israel Medical Center on 14 Street in Manhattan. He told us that it was like a war zone. They were treating the victims out in the streets yesterday with the National Guard providing security and protection.
I'm glad that all other members of the Forum and their families are fine. I haven't read the entire thread but I hope for the best from other members who we haven't heard from and their families.

Just got word from my friend, she made it out OK. American Express evacuated right after the first plane hit. Still, on of her co-workers was badly injured and in surgery yesterday, and one was missing (another that was presumed missing was found while I was on the phone with her!)
My hopes are with everyone.

Larry,
My thoughts are with you and your colleagues. We are living through something that we will never, ever forget and you, like my son, had a first person singular experience. Coincidentally, my son, David, used to work for Salomon Bros. in WTC7 until moving over to Lehman Bros. about 2 years ago in WFC Building #1.
He, too, watched in horror as his former workplace (building #7) collapsed in front of his eyes on television (the wonder and terror of live coverage). And this morning we were on the phone as his new building (WFC- World Financial Center - #1) briefly had a fire on the roof which was extinguished. Thankfully, WTC7 was, I'm told, totally evacuated by the time it fell. Believe it or not, the athorities had to evacuate two people who were on the roof taking pictures.

A somewhat related question. I wonder if you experienced something that he did on Monday, D-Day minus 1. Apparently a number of fighter jets made passes on Monday up the Hudson river and around the tip of Manhattan. He tells me it's not unusual for planes of different types to fly by, but the Jets were a little different and there were a couple of sonic booms on Monday.
In fact, when the first plane hit the first tower at 8:45 a.m. most of his staff thought it was another sonic boom, like those on Monday.
If this is, in fact, true, it makes one wonder what the planes were doing in the area one day earlier. Granted, I'm not an advocate of the shoulda-coulda-woulda mentality (recalling from my history accounts the tales of the U.S. being aware of Pearl Harbor before the event) but it's still something to trhink about. And I also realize that dealing with terrorists is a whole different scenario, since most leads, thankfully, don't pan out and there is a fine line that has to be drawn between prudence and panic.
Every Monday (Wednesday?) Morning quarterback is a genius.
Whatever.
My thoughts are with you and yours and everyone else involved.
Fly the flag proudly and give blood.

Indeed, this is a terrible tragedy. I was at the Brooklyn Bridge while the towers were on fire, and decided to get closer to the buildings (I didn't know they would collapse). When I was a few blocks away, there was a massive boom, and a sound like a giant jet engine. We ran, as the south tower collapsed, from a giant wall of debris. I was okay, but my hopes and consolations go out to those who weren't, or aren't.
