There are two DVDs, both lousy. This Blu-ray disc will be a day one purchase for me. I'm very pleased.

I think I have the Film Chest DVD. Glad I can finally get rid of it.

Is this indeed a PD film? If so, thanks for the save.

Excellent news about Pitfall (1948)!!! Film was distributed theatrically by United Artists, so that would place the film under MGM's ownership, but in 1995 it got VHS release by Republic, also from UCLA restoration.

MisterLime, thank you so much for taking your time and doing a thread like this. It is so nice to know that you are listening to the classic fans and helping with any questions. These questions all relate to Blu-ray releases.

It may have been asked before, but do you have the rights to the Pink Panther films? MGM seems to not be releasing any classics at all, and also Exodus (the roadshow version), The Hallelujah Trail and Alexander the Great (all 3 have stereo tracks available). Also, one title I want very badly is Man of La Mancha (also has stereo track). Thank you for your time..

MGM is holding the rights to all Pink Panther films and cartoons - I guess they'll be released in 2016. Exodus, Alexander the Great and Man of La Mancha are with other labels and should be released soon. I've heard The Hallelujah Trail film elements are not in good condition, so it would be huge task to remaster the film in HD - also different cuts, different aspect ratios - very similar to The Alamo.

I've been waiting for this ever since I saw the restored print at Noir City. An underrated noir, very mature in its exploration of adult relationships and doesn't flinch from adressing the fallout. Dick Powell liked it so much that he hired the screenwriter to develop another original screenplay for him, which became "Cry Danger."

The smart money seems to be on Shout! Factory releasing the Pink Panther films. I say this because Shout! has a licencing agreement with ITC as well as with MGM, and The Return of the Pink Panther's video rights remain with ITC (MGM has theatrical distribution rights, but ITC produced the film and retains video rights), so the ideal would be a complete box set of all films through a third party, like Shout! did through its Scream! imprint for the Halloween films.

However, I further note that Olive Films has picked up the Mirisch-produced animated shorts related to The Pink Panther franchise, including The Ant and the Aardvark and The Inspector, so a full-blown "Ultimate" set is unlikely. I personally would settle for all the PP theatrical films in a box, using Inspector Clouseau, Curse of the Pink Panther and Son of the Pink Panther as drink coasters. ;) :D :P

Kino Lorber has the Mirisch animated shorts, not Olive. Just clarifying....

My bad. Olive has licenced several UA titles (including Caveman), hence my confusion.

Actually the smart money in on MGM/Fox, since they're not sublicensing the PP films or cartoons and MGM also acquired the rights to RETURN OF THE PP from ITC/ITV. And Kino Lorber was the label that acquired the rights to the animated shorts Ant & the Aardvark, Insepctor, and seven others. :)
