Just watched this tonight, and thought is was bloody brilliant. But a huge discussion has ensued as to what really happens, and the ending of the film.

I have been arguing the point that Malcom/Timmy, really was at the hotel, and did really kill all of characters through out the film. He was on Death row for killing 10 people. There were 10 people killed at the motel. Look closely at the pictures flipped through at the start of the film, they are the victims in the motel as well. It is stated in the early part of the film that Timmy's dad was abusive and has been out of the picture for 2 years now. Well a continue pattern of abuse in children can lead to MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) which out villain has. The scene that sealed this for me was in the extended version of the film on the DVD. You see the flashbacks of Timmy killing everyone at the motel, but beyond this, when Cusiak runs down the woman at the start of the film, in the flash back Timmy is seen smiling/laughing in the back seat of the car. A clue to the fact that he was demented even before the murders started. Upon killing those at the motel he adopted their personalities one by one. If you took note the man in the freezer, the original motel manager was Malcom. A simple glimpse at what he saw himself to be in the future. Cold and frozen, locked away, just in himself. Again in the opening credits, we see pictures of Timmy in a police cruiser, presumably in custody. Flashes of juvenile and so forth, eluding to the fact that he had murdered these people in his early youth.

Food for thought.
