I don't see how dating a commentary makes it of any less interest, I happen to like the original Criterion LD commentary for the 1933 King Kong and that was the first one ever made (1984 I think), knowing that fact doesn't diminish my enjoyment one iota.

But that's me.

Exactly. I'm more concerned with the quality of the commentary than knowing when it was recorded.

I'm with you on this. I don't see how knowing the commentary was for a LD makes it any less relevant. The content of the commentary makes it a good or bad commentary, and that's not diminished even if I know it came from a previous edition.

On the other hand, I'm sick to death of commentaries that are just basically an way for the director to say how great everyone is and have no real content.
