At present, RottenTomatoes.com has a 0 for 43 'fresh' tally. I think we have a new champion, giving Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio (which has just been issued on home video) a run for its crown at 0 for 50.

Here in San Diego, I was listening to the Jeff and Jer Replay (there popular DJs in SD), where they replay their morning show this evening and they were talking about "Gigli" and how bad they heard it was. We've been hearing that it's possibly "the worst film ever", right. Well, what they heard made me laugh out loud. They said:

"I heard that this is the worst movie since "Howard The Duck."

That made me laugh hard, mainly because I know that some of you guys up here at the HTF like that movie, and I promise you that if you like it, then you have a right to like it.

In fact, the guys on that show went to see the screening. I let you know what they think if I hear their show tomorrow. (Meaning better not sleep in)

Roger Ebert movie rating sliding meter...

If the movie contains a hot woman scantily clad remove 1 star from his rating
If the woman participates in a sex scene or discusses sex remove an additional 1/2 star

(See reviews for Origional Sin, Charlies Angels II, and the Tomb Raider series)
    This is a recent development.

No records will be broken. There's now a lone positive review.

It's not that recent, IMO, he's always had a thing for pretty actresses.

If "Gigli" was set in Chicago it would have gottan half a star extra too. [IMG]

That review from Fox News seemed to be trying a little too hard to be funny and cash in on "anti-Bennifer" feelings. The reviewer also seemed a little offended by the language in the movie.

It seems to me that the movie is intended to be in the same style as "Get Shorty" and "Miami Blues", but that the marketing is trying to push the "romantic comedy" angle. Maybe that's why people are so negative. I haven't seen the movie though, maybe it just plain sucks. [IMG]

Also, subtract half a star if the movie has cool set designs and costumes. (Example: "The Cell", which also had Lopez)

I've gotten more peripheral enjoyment from this film than I imagined by reading this thread and the linked reviews.

Isn't its perceived badness tempting enough to go see (just to have a baseline for comparison to other films)?

Here in Washington, reviewer Joe Barber -- of WTOP radio and WETA -- used the "I" word in his comments: Ishtar

I always wonder if, at some time during the production, the principals in a movie like Gigli stop and ask themselves "my dear, this is a complete and total mess. How did I get into this position?" I mean, the reviews of this movie cannot have come as a surprise to Brest, Affleck and Lopez. When Lopez says "it's turkey time," she had to know that the line was idiotic, no?

I would so love to read Chuck the Movie Guy's review but the link above & the link from RT only produces a blank screen. [IMG]

Chuck's review isn't written. It's a (poor quality) video clip from what appears to be a broadcast. There were problems with the server when I tried to play it, though.

Well, I finally got the page to load and I clicked the link for the video review but it seemed to get stuck. Then I clicked the Gigli link above that and for review it said not available.

    I think it's a hoax.

    Fake Bigfoot tracks
    Good Gigli review

Not a hoax, at least in the sense that the review exists. [IMG] I managed to get it to play part of the way through earlier today, and he definitely likes the film.
