I am really hoping this shakes out to be a winner. With these names (Click Me!) this had a real potential to go places.

As with "Ocean's 12", "Be Cool" has a whack of egos. That's a difficult managing / directing challenge. Oceans 12 received diverse opinions... some loved it, and others hated it, but there was no middle ground.

(Maybe it's just me but with Uma, JT, and Harvey, it begged for QT to direct it... )

    Addendum:
The early screenings and opinions are coming in...
    Some Opinions

...and it looks like a love / hate relationship.

It is not looking good right now with a 22% reading over at RT on 37 reviews.

I was looking forward to this, but the release date had me worried. The best thing about the movie seems to be The Rock, whose character was written specifically for him by Elmore Leonard.

Man, that sucks. The first was a nice sleeper and I thought the Sonnenfeld look set the mood perfectly.

Ebert didn't much care for it either. Another case of sequelitis.

Well at least it got us a new Get Shorty DVD! I didn't expect much from an unnecessary sequel, but if unnecessary sequels will result in better DVDs of some of my favourite movies, I won't mind them so much. If they suck, I can just watch their predecessors and pretend they don't exist.

The change of directors is the biggest issue.

I think the change of writers was significant too. While both movies were based on Elmore Leonard novels, Be Cool doesn't have the same screenwriter that Get Shorty did.
