My son is due in November too! What's your due date? We're due November 16th. I was also thinking it would be a pretty cool thing to have me a Halloween son. It's already my favorite holiday so that would be pretty awesome.

Cheers,

Jason

Count me in...I'll try for 31 but I'm lucky to get in 13 movies of any kind in a month lately.
I'll probably track/rate TV shows and shorts but obviously won't "count" them for the challenge.

awww! this could be the best challenge ever with babies being born! Congrats guys, and I hope it all goes well :D

So does anyone have any plans on what they are starting with? I'm thinking the "Hellraiser" series for me. I haven't seen the 1st 2 in years, and I don't think I ever saw past the fourth.

Hey, congrats to you and yours Jason. Technically the due date is November 28, but there are complications which may necessitate an early C-section. My father-in-law's birthday is Oct 31, so we already have a Halloween baby in the family!

I think I'll start out with anthologies - the recent Tales From the Crypt/Vault of Horror double feature and From Beyond the Grave. I'd also like to revisit Dr Terror's House of Horrors (on R2 DVD) which is my favorite of them all. I know I'll be watching the Phantasm series sometime in October (never seen parts 3 and 4).

I was thinking about watching in a roughly chronological order (starting in the 1930's and go forward). I'd watch all of the Dracula Legacy set as opposed to jumping between that and movies from the Frankenstein set or I'd watch all the Friday The 13th movies in a row instead of putting The Thing or Poltergeist in there. Of course it'll probably take two or three days until I change my mind and I'll be all over the place. :)

I usually always watch all the series like that in Chrono order. I'm definitely doing Hellraiser this year, and maybe "Nightmare On Elm Street", though I'll probably skip the first one since I watched it last year :)

Count me in! But a word of warning: I have a yearly Horrorthon. Last year I watched 133 flicks. And that was a bad year. Heh! The year before it seems like it was 145. This year's goal is 140. I should be able to beat that. Some of my choices might be questionable though. We'll see. Btw, I usually keep track of mine on rottentomatoes.com's forum. I'll cut & paste to this thread. With all this movie watching and review writing it'll be tough to partake in conversation over 2 threads on 2 different boards. That's the only problem. :frowning: Well, that and trying to keep from playing Oblivion next month. That'll be hell!

I'm very random with my movie watching in October so it doesn't get old. I go with whatever flick I'm "feeling" at the time I choose. This year I bought an overabundant supply of slasher flicks. Not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. I do watch series in chron order myself.

Monster Squad... haven't seen it in 20+ years and rented it last week from Netflix. Its been quite the trial of will to not watch it until monday.

I wonder if "wolf nards" is still funny?

Absolutely Friday the 13th part 1. But I'll be watching that one first thing tomorrow afternoon. So that doesn't count. Not sure what I'll watch on monday.

Garret, I have Monster Squad as well. A wonderful 2-dvd set! I haven't seen it since the 80s when it hit cable. I remember loving it.

I'm still disappointed with my performance last year. I was off to a good start, but after three unsuccessful attempts to watch Scream 3, I lost all desire to watch anything for two weeks. That really destroyed my enjoyment of the Challenge. However, I will attempt to make up for that this year. Can't wait for Monday!

sweet! Netflix has mailed me Call Of The Cthulhu, the silent film I've been waiting 2 years to see (a 2004 film done in 20's style), this along with Descent is going to make this an awesome monday/tuesday.

Put up the Halloween decorations this weekend, and started watching very late last night. Finished up Hammer's Mummy films.

001) 10/01/2007 The Mummy's Shroud (1966) :star::star:

Routine Mummy outing offers yet another Mummy legend with yet another Mummy (this time a king's slave) avenging the tomb desecration of his master. Virtually a remake of The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964), but it has Andre Morell and, especially, Michael Ripper to keep it watchable. Good death sequences especially brutal this time out.

002) 10/01/2007 Blood From the Mummy's Tomb (1971) :star::star:

Based on Bram Stoker's "Jewel of the 7 Stars," a group of explorers find the tomb of an evil queen who then takes over the body of one of the member's new-born daughter. Years later the queen knocks off the members as she prepares for total possession of the (now) young woman's soul. Starts out well but becomes an all too familiar stalk-and-kill mummy movie. Final shot is quite memorable, though. Better than the 1980 version of the story, The Awakening

I had seen bits of this and read all about it as a kid in Savini's great book Grande Illusions, but I never watched the whole thing until now. Savini's effects are indeed excellent but too few and far between. Ultimately it's way too slowly paced and uneventful to be the unheralded slasher classic that some seem to consider it to be.
