As much as I hated the movie, I still want that Sandler nom for Best Actor just to see heads explode! :D

And I know there are many here who don’t care about the Oscars at all. So no need to post in this thread right?;)

I think 1917 and The Irishman are locks to get best picture nominations, considering the ratings and raves these films are getting from critics and film fans.

Overall, it is a solid list of nominees. With that out of the way, it's time to gripe. :)

    - Greta Gerwig got screwed.

    - I know people liked it but Joker getting any nominations (outside of Joaquin Phoenix) is absolutely baffling to me. Joker wasn't even the best comic book movie of the year let alone one of the best movies of the year.

And regarding being “snubbed” or “screwed”.

I have never agreed with those labels. I always look at it as the Academy just nominating what they feel is a more worthy choice despite our personal opinions.

The exclusion of Frozen II from Best Animated Feature is ridiculous.

As has already been mentioned, Greta Gerwig should have been in for Directing.

I just don't think Joker is really that exceptional so am surprised to see it so decorated.

Toy Story 4 is better than at least half of those Best Picture nominees. In excluding it when they still could have nominated one more film, the Academy proved that the third film's nomination was only due to there being a required ten nominations that year. 1917 is the only Best Picture nominee I have not seen.

I was, however, really happy to see Ad Astra get any nomination at all since I loved that movie.

    I'll think of more later.

I just rewatched Joker the other night and I gotta say I loved it on my second viewing. So much richer and fascinating than my first screening. Especially Joachin’s performance, Todd Philips direction and the musical score.

That's easy. Take out Todd Phillips. Put in Gerwig instead.

I haven’t seen Little Women yet so I don’t know if I would agree. I thought the direction in Joker was terrific.

Fill disclosure I did not like Lady Bird at all.

Nothing against Phillips (he helped get a legitimately scary performance from Phoenix) but I agree.

I think you liked Joker more than I did in general. I liked it well enough, and Phoenix is terrific in it, but I would not label it as one of the best films of the year by any stretch of the imagination at all.

    +1.

    Jo Jo Rabbit

Even with A-List, never got around to Little Women, Marriage Story or Jojo Rabbit from the list of BP nominees.

Marriage Story is a Netflix film so A-List wouldn’t have applied anyway. Terrific powerful film. You should check it out.
