Good Morning - (Good night to you Neal)
I am going on vacation so we will not be posting again for about 3 weeks. We have posted a lot of Saturday stuff so today it will be a few of my favorite commercials. There are some that stuck in my little brain. How about the rest of you - any commercials that have remained from your early years?

As a Detroit Brat our local soda Pop was Faygo. They still exist and make a Rock & Rye that I have whenever I get back there (Black Cherry and Cream Soda) Here is the Faygo Kid.

Happy New Year Marv, and enjoy your vacation! I spent the better part of a decade in Detroit and cultivated an appreciation for Rock & Rye myself. Was pleasantly surprised to stumble across it in a small market in Santa Monica about 5 years ago, must have gotten some kind of distribution deal.

IMDb provides a broadcast date (23 October 1956) but as a syndicated show this actually varied from city to city, for example in New York City, it aired 17 November 1956, while in Philadelphia it aired on 13 December 1956. The series was syndicated overseas, for example this episode aired in Montreal Canada on 8 May 1958, while in Melbourne Australia it aired 5 January 1958, while in Sydney Australia it aired on 11 May 1958 (in both cities it aired against a locally-produced version of "Meet the Press"....I believe it was a different version in each city). In 1961, Rocky Marciano produced a syndicated television series titled: Main Event. Each show would include a guest that Marciano would interview along with showing clips of past boxing matches.

REX LAYNE vs BOB SATTERFIELD (1961)
Stars Rocky Marciano Jimmy Durante Rex Layne Bob Satterfield

In 1961, Rocky Marciano produced a syndicated television series titled: Main Event. Each show would included a guest that Rocky would interview. In this episode his guest is Jimmy Durante, with some great stories to tell. This film includes the REX LAYNE vs BOB SATTERFIELD boxing slugfest from 1951 at Madison Square Garden. It is interesting to have true boxer Rocky Marciano, considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, do the commentary. He expertly points out the good, and bad form of the fighters in his play by play. Mastered from 16mm b-w film. (Moviecraft Inc.)
