I keep seeing people refer to Widescreen as OAR. I just want to know what OAR stands for.

I know its a stupid question and I expect a stupid answer but you don't know unless you ask.

    Thanks

    Original Aspect Ratio

Refers to preserving the original width and height ratio of the film when transferring to DVD and then displaying on your TV at home.

The reason many people prefer the term "OAR" is because it includes both the presentations commonly called "widescreen" or "letterbox", as well as works that are and have always been the shape of a typical TV screen. For example, The Wizard of Oz has an OAR of 1.33:1: so do most TV shows.
