I understand the differences in them. But, why do they still use them? Wouldn't it be easier to have some worldwide standard? I understand it has something to do with that it's become the standard in each of the countries. Similar to how the US has the steering wheel on the left, while the British have it on the right.

It would be good but also very costly to everyone buying new equipment. TVs,VCRs,DVDs,Cable boxes,etc. Last looked at it would consumers in the billions of $$$. Also NTSC has the least lines of resolution so don't look for people to switch to our standard.
