You know, containing his two directorial efforts that are incredibly hard to find anywhere, THE ADVENTURE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES' SMARTER BROTHER and, most importantly, THE WORLD'S GREATEST LOVER, which I consider to be one of the unsung comedy masterpieces of the '70s.

Where the hell are these films on DVD???

I'm continually mystified by the heaps of praise on and many releases of BLAZING SADDLES, which I find to be incredibly dated and largely unfunny nowadays, while the aforementioned Wilder films (which I consider vastly superior to BS and all other Brooks films I've seen except for THE PRODUCERS and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN) aren't available and are rarely discussed at all. A crime, if you ask me.

What other Wilder films would you want in the set?

My favorite Wilder written/directed movie is Woman in Red. One of my favorites.

How about his co-starring vehicles with Richard Pryor to fill out a box set:

    Another You (1991)
See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989)
    Stir Crazy (1980)
    Silver Streak (1976)

I know some or all of these had already been released on DVD (I have Stir Crazy).

Hey, a 6 movie box set would be fine by me.

Well I've got some very good news for you.

On April 4th, the same day as the Mel Brooks Box Set, you can go pick yourself up some copies of The World's Greatest Lover AND The Adventures of Sherlock Holme's Smarter Brother.

Fox seems to be releasing them as a tie-in. Hope this makes you happy!

Also, all the other Wilder films mentioned in this thread are all available on Widescreen DVD, though from different studios. Guess you'll have to make your own Box Set, but at least you can get all the films!

Wow, great news about the commentaries. Although, the DVDTimes listing is in error re: the aspect ratios; neither of these films were shot in a 2.35:1 ratio.

Was a soundtrack ever released for THE WORLD'S GREATEST LOVER? It's got the most wonderful twentiesish/thirtiesish song in it, Ain't It Kinda Wonderful, written by Gene and sung by Harry Nilsson:

    Ain't it kinda wonderful
    Ain't it kinda fun
    Ain't it kinda chilling
When you know that you are thrilling him
And he is filling you with all the dreams
    That you had ever hoped
    Would come true
    Woo-ooo-ooo-ooo

    Ain't it kinda marvelous
Oh don't you think it's swell
When you find the perfect lover
Who adores you so much more
Than any other man you wanted
    And it's true

It's not a dream at all
    The only thing he wants
    Is you
