Ragtime is one of the releases listed here I am looking forward to the most.

Did the Director's Cut show only in theaters (at the time of initial release)? Or a secondary release?

This has already been confirmed as false. There are to be no redone SEs or Director's Cut included in this year box set including all 3 films.

An excellent thread fart - well done! ;)

Jacob,

I think by now you have already made your case for how you feel about Garfield well known throughout the HTF forums - and at the very least you've made it clear how much you love all things related Garfield:

what about garfield and friends on dvd?
Thanks Fox for the Garfield releases! vol 1 and tv specials!
Garfield: The Movie IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!
the new garfield trailer (quicktime) !
Garfield The Movie (Bill Murray) Coming to DVD October 19th, 2004!
Family friendly movies vs harry potter & shrek!

(and these are only the threads you authored, and not the many posts you have made regarding Garfield in other threads)

I certainly can appreciate your enthusiasm for Garfield, it's just that I personally don't share it - nor did every critic whom I read a review of the film from. As for public opinion, at least on IMDB the average rating is below 5, and that doesn't even take in account that nearly 20% of the IMDB voters gave it a higher rating than all of the Top 250 Movies of All-Time as voted on by IMDB members. (I guess I would have a problem trusting the opinion of those 200 or so 'voters' who felt Garfield was superior to say The Godfather, LOTR, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, etc.) - but hey... maybe that's just me being cynical?) :)

If it makes you feel better, I actually agree with you in so much as the quality of Van Helsing (although perhaps not with the level of hostility you have for the film), but it made the list because the multi disc special edition is far more impressive in production value than most DVDs, it is also a movie that far more people saw and have interest in than Garfield. After all, only 1,300 IMDB members bothered to vote for Garfield, while over 11,000 voted for Van Helsing.

But you really shouldn't take such an offense for Garfield being left of the list. You've already done a marvelous job promoting it everywhere else on HTF, and have even managed to promote it here with out it being on the list - a job well done. :)

Yes, can anybody answer this? I seem to remember the film being shown in two parts in its early days of TV showings, so perhaps that was Milos Forman's cut. It seemed very strange that the character of Emma Goldman, so prominent in the E.L. Doctorow novel, was not included in the current theatrical cut at all--it's not as if no one would have known who she was, since Maureen Stapleton portrayed her in Reds two years earlier.

Of course, the strangest thing about this release is the delay--if there WAS a director's cut, I would have thought it would have been released last year, around the same time the SEs of Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest were released. I'm not complaining now that Ragtime is finally being released, I'm just curious as to what took an R1 release so long, that's all. Such great acting from Cagney, Howard Rollins, Kenneth McMillan, Elizabeth McGovern and Brad "Wormtongue" Dourif--not to mention a very memorable Randy Newman period score.

DVDSoon.com has a release date of December 14th for "LOTR: Return of the King" EE & Gift Set.

What about:

"King Arthur"
"The Village"
"Alien Vs. Predator"
???

Surely these 3 came out in time to make a December 2004 DVD release date?

uh oh, MGM follows up "Showgirls VIP edition" with "Legally Blonde Platinum Edition", which contains:

* both Legally Blonde 1 & 2 movies
* word magnets
* a notepad and pen
* a sneak peek at the upcoming Beauty Shop
* a collectible "clutch purse" outer box

Unnecessary update...

This had been reported earlier, when co-star Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) let slip the news of certain "shot footage" involving the stairs that is missing from the final cut.

And so they are releasing a Director's Cut with this "deleted scene". :D

There's also the Criterion re-release of M, with a new transfer and some (not yet specified) special features. It's coming "late in 2004," and it's all kinds of going into my collection.

Man, I wish had that amount of disposable income. I'm looking at buying no more than 10 dvds before the end of the year total.
