I did not say I was actually going to pay $4000 for the Sunfire, but that is what it retails for in the brick and mortar shops. I am demoing it. I know I can get it much cheaper elsewhere. By yhe way I A/B tested the Rockets against Monitor Audio S10 and Paradigm Studio 100's side by side and I definately liked the Rockets much better.
It's always good to spend time to decide which speakers you prefer. Keep in mind though Mike, that the role the room plays in all of this is enormously profound.
Let me recommend upgrading to a Hi-end Pre-amp Analog from McIntosh and a B&O Class D 500/wpc amp and B&W Nautilus 1 you can't get wrong with this setup, and don't forget to use a high end wires and Interconnect, i recommend the top of the line wires and interconnect from kimber. If you use a PS3 for your source, use a Hi-end DAC before connecting to your proc/pre.
I find that a Yamaha's are too bright and too loud for me even for their top of the line gear, for their price they are Yamaha are designed for the mass consumer. I compare Yamaha's to MP3s., too noisy and irritating. Young Newbies & neophytes usually likes the sound of Yamaha. Try listening to Yamahas for hours and you'll know what i'm taking about.
Let me know what you finally ending up with to your liking....
