letting your kids believe in Santa and not fostering your child's natural hunger for reading and writing skills are totally separate issues.

i'm totally on the Santa bandwagon here but I still recognize that my 4 year old's mind is blossoming at a staggering rate right now.

that being said, i'm not a big advocate of force feeding a 4 yr old the 3 R's.

I certainly wouldn't say Julie is strange at all, and I echo most of her sentiments, both in terms of children of my own, and in that critical thinking at a young age is a very valuable tool.

Just because a kid knows the difference in fantasy and reality doesn't mean they have the magic of their childhood stripped away. I wasn't told about Santa, and had a very active imagination.
That said, no one play will fit for every child, and I don't think you'll permanently damage your child mentally by lying to them about Santa. Though you may....:D
