I tried to order one today and my dealer was told by Yamaha that this player was discontinued. How can they be so mean?

Well Yamaha Canada responded to my e-mail rather quickly, this is what I had to say.

Hi, I have been anxiously waiting for this player to become available, as
your e-mail to me indicated, however I tried to order it today and I was
told by west end electronics that they were Informed by Yamaha that this
player has been discontinued. I was hoping you could give me some more
information on this, why was it discontinued? will there be a replacement
coming out? if so when and at what price.

    Cheers
    John

    and their response was,

    Dear John
A newer model will replace it soon in the fall.
We never received any quantity of the DVD-S2300 for Canadian Sales. We are
just as disappointed as you are.
    Regards

    at least they were honest

My dealer just called me today and said his shipment arrived and he was sending mine out. Most people had been hearing all month that its scheduled for release this week. But then again, I'm in the US and I see you guys are in Canada. I don't know why they'd cancel the Canada release but keep it in the US.

What does "soon in the fall" mean? The fall is a long time away. What's up with that?

Yeah no kidding, soon...... my local dealer told me it would be august. still too far away for me.

but you knwo what I think Yamaha lost a few sales here, i was ready to shell out for the S2300, but now it looks like im going to be picking up the Denon when that comes out.

How could the Yamaha be already discontinued when it was pushed hard at the CES this month (one of the first big manufacturer show introductions for this model)?

    Doesn't make any sense.

Could it be because it's based on a Panny chassis, that is also being discontinued? I would expect some of the current Denon models, similarly based, to disappear soon too.
