Is it a good bet that if a DVD is a Region 2-6 release, it's also a PAL release that would require a PAL/NTSC conversion for viewing on a NTSC display?

Are there Region 2-6 DVDs that are NTSC (or are they an anomaly?)

Just to add to what Jeff says, as far as I know ALL Region 3 DVD are NTSC. This covers much more than Hong Kong, including Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand and so on. But just to underline a point I have made before, all DVD players around here play all-codes and both PAL and NTSC, as do the TV sets. So we don't have the problems that Americans seem to have.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, folks! Too bad the stuff I want is mainly European, thus PAL.

With the exception of 'Sex and the City - season 1' and the odd music disc, Eric Clapton springs to mind, almost every region 2 disc is PAL encoded.

Some Region 4 (Brazil, etc) are NTSC as are some of the new R4 Aussie releases.

$2Warner is releasing titles in R4 (Australia) that are in the NTSC format, despite the fact that the official broadcast standard for Australia is PAL - much to the disgust of DVD buyers.[IMG] [IMG]
Members of one of the forums over here are currently getting a legal opinion on whether these discs can be classed as 'defective' and 'not fit for purpose' and therefore force $2Warner to recall them.
To be safe, just avoid any R4 $2Warner title! (P&S NTSC version of Willy Wonka anyone??)
