I have a Panny DVD-S35 and it tends to be selectively noisy.

I don't have any problems with a slightly noisy player, but this one isn't consistently so.

Say I pop in the same DVD, and let it start up a bunch of times. On some startups, it's quiet. On others it's noisy. Just a slightly loud whirring noise.

No problems with visual quality, even when it's being noisy.

    Any ideas?

Is this a sign of a problem about to occur, or should I just ignore it?

    Thanks!

Moving parts "settle down" when they've run for a few minutes. My bedroom player, with its lighter chassis than the main-system's player, is noisy by comparison. I can hear the whirring of the motor and how it changes pitch when performing different functions (such as navigating menus and actually playing the disc).

Unless you hear something really scary, such as a loud grinding noise, there's nothing to worry about here. But I wouldn't stop and restart the player several times in succession if I were you.
