So I've looked all over the usual suspects - Chud, DVD Drive in, DVD Mainiacs - and nobody has a review up for Diary of the Dead yet. Did I mess up the release week or something - is it not out yet?

Hell, I cant even find a listing of extras on the disc yet. This thing doesnt seem to exist.

I'll review the film. It's 90 minutes of George Romero saying "Humans suck. Do you see? Do you SEE? NOW DO YOU SEE?"

And I say that as someone who considers the man as bordering on a demigod. (I adore zombie movies. I've even written one.)

Though it does have BY FAR the coolest movie death I've seen in a LONG time (which I will not spoil as it was one of the few points of the movie I loved. Suffice to say it occurs in a barn, just so you can place it if you see it.)

Yes! The man's head is getting so far up his ass about his beloved undead that he's in serious danger of lapping his own body.

He's out of ideas and his "brilliance" diminishes more and more with each new film.

But, this is the DVD review thread so I will say that it looked and sounded great.

I thought the posse in NOTLD was a much better commentary on the foolishness of humanity.

I found that Diary was a big burn on the cult of the amateur tho, rather than humanity as a whole. It seemed to bring up a lot of issues about how everyone has an undying need to express themselves and that pros are no longer as valuable. This is echoed in the effectiveness of the African American 'posse' as opposed to the national guard.

Is the death scene the hanging? THAT was the highpoint of the movie for me...

No, not the hanging.

I mean Samuel, the Amish guy putting the sickle through his head to kill the zombie. Takes a lot to shock me in a movie, but that sure did.

My other problem with the movie, besides the heavy handed message, was that NONE of the characters were remotely worth caring for except the professor. I liked him. The rest were all weasels.

And if I heard a character say any of the following words one more time I would have done what I said above...

YouTube
Streaming video

All that tech talk just screamed "hey, kids, check out ol' George, ain't it cool that i'm hip enough to know what these things are and am making a *MODERN* zombie flick?"

:rolleyes

I took it just the other way, disdain for all of those technologies.

Also, yes that samuel scene was a great highlight, but the hanging was even more slick IMO.
