Hello. I have a Sony AVD-C70ES connected via component video to a Vizio TV. The picture won't display on the TV when a DVD is playing ... the sound is good. All of the color plugs on the Sony's component outputs are aligned correctly as are the component inputs on the TV. The TV input is set to the component source. Any ideas? I have tried 2 other sets of component plugs & a different TV with the same results. Thanks.

Wow! That unit is about 15 years old!
This is a 5 disc carousel player / receiver combined, right?

When you play a disc does the front panel indicate the time remaining? If it does then the laser pickup is still functioning. In that case you can try toggling the interlace/progressive switch to the right of the component outputs.

BTW, this unit has both component outputs and component inputs. The component outputs are at the top of the rear of the device, and the interlace/progressive switch is adjacent to it. So make sure that’s the array you plugged the cables into. The switch should be set to progressive, but could be dirty after all these years.

Good luck! With a unit that old there’s a whole myriad of reasons why you’re not getting a picture.

You are correct ... 5 disc carousel. Yes the front panel does display the time remaining & I attempted toggling the switch on the rear panel. I noticed the manual indicated if using the component outputs ( which I am ) the switch needs to be set to "selectable" ( only choices are interlaced & selectable ) & then the component out needs to be set to progressive in the Screen Setup menu. But since I can get no picture I can't see the OSD so I am not sure if the component output is set to interlaced or progressive. If it is set to interlaced while the rear switch is toggled to selectable that could definitely be an issue but no way to tell at this point.

Your unit appears to come with a remote that has an LCD display. Page 75 of your manual describes how to get to the TV output setup menu for this player. In that menu is a display line "component out". The line will display what the current output from the component jacks is selected. The output can be selected from the remote as long as "selectable" is turned on on the DVD player.

Frankly, whether interlace or progressive is selected on the player should not matter. TVS are built to accept both signals. The signal will either play natively or be converted to a type supported by the TV. You can try switching to the opposite of whatever is displayed on your remote as described in the first paragraph; however, I suspect that something has blown in the video output stage of the player.
