Geez, it's just a joke!
Considering that the reason I haven't watched GWTW yet is because of the picture cropping on some early releases (and I heard that the original negatives were restored for a release at some point), a nice restored release would've rocked. And considering it's in 3-strip Technicolor (just like The Wizard of Oz, which they just released in 4K), the film would've made for a perfect release at least, and a perfect gift set at best. Ugh. At least there's (from what I hear) a really good Blu-Ray from a few years ago in the meantime.
The current Blu-ray edition is quite good and an excellent way to experience the film if you’ve never seen it before. No need to wait for 4K.
Since the final shot was one of the 1954 "lifted" shots, does that mean they redid THE END title and placed it in a different spot on the frame? As it is now, the SELZNICK PICTURES credit covers Scarlett. Or did they leave the title alone?
I have a 1939 photo of that shot..
For anyone in the Toronto area, it's playing on the huge Cinesphere IMAX screen March 28th & 29th.
Thanks for the heads up! I might have to see if I can swing that.
You can see in that photo how much was cropped on the top.
