I own the LD box set (several, actually). What's missing is about half the "Making Of" documentary. Plus the MTV shorts, which were only included on the first printing of the box set and then pulled because of copyright issues (or so I'm told). But most of all, what's missing is the book. This is the best book ever included in an LD box set, and I've owned nearly all of them. It's worth obtaining the LD box set just for this.

The (excellent) book is available separately from Hyperion Press. I was given it for Christmas the year that the film was in theatres (and since I got the boxed set now I have two copies).
It has also been issued in a less-expensive paperback version.

I just realized that, on my DVD, the audio commentary stops several minutes early. I put in my LD from the boxed set and confirmed that the commentary continues into the beginning of the credits. On the DVD, it stop just as they are commenting on the computer generated snow flakes.

I bought the DVD the day it was released. Does anyone know if this error was corrected in later pressings of the DVD?

In addition to the MTV bumpers, the first printing of the LD box also had Selick's Slow Bob In The Lower Dimensions.

    Sort of off topic, but.....

If you happen to be in Southern California, I recommend a trip to Disneyland. The Haunted Mansion is being

re-decorated in a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. It is not a minor make over. Pretty much everything is re-themed (including new music) to elements from the film.

I was there last December, and it was very, very cool if you are a fan of the film. The family is going back this December, and I am looking forward to seeing it again.

I don't know if they are doing this in any other Disney parks.

    It's a 1,66:1 movie, you'd still get black bars anyway..oh well.

The transfer is non-anamorphic, but it's still a great transfer.

    There is no "DVD-Rot"

Laser rot is so common, it goes beyond just defective discs, it's inherent problems in the format and bad manufacturing plants.

    DVD just has bad discs
