I decided not to wait any longer and bought the German release which suddenly popped up at a good price on Amazon UK. Didn't notice any problems with the sound (Panny player and OLED tv) and thought the image to be excellent, much brighter than the DVD. The only thing that has always nagged me about this film is the poor quality of the interior sets (eg the bar scene). The film goes from lovely exterior cinematography to very obvious studio interiors. The lovely scenery includes Elaine Stewart, of course (and Dianne Foster).

I got the German release when it first came out and felt it was an upgrade over the DVD I had, which had two movies on each disc. It’s not the most strikingly beautiful thing I’ve ever seen but it looked and sounded fine and nothing in it took away from my enjoyment of the actual film. The upcoming Kino is almost certainly from the same master but includes a commentary from someone I’ve enjoyed listening to before so I may have to splurge on that too.

I have the German BD too and pre-ordered the upcoming Kino release during Target’s latest “buy 2, get 1 free” sale for the commentary track.
