My favorite episode is #123 - Yet Another Day in the Life. Dan's expressions were absolutely classic, especially when the guy that has "Tortoise Nervosa" arrives. If you haven't seen this one, it's a must see.

Just to keep the flame (among other things) burning for this show. (Besides, I happened across this picture and couldn't resist)

:)

Damn...I should've included her AND Ellen Foley in that Lovely Ladies Of The 80s tournament I ran from December 2002-Spring 2003. They would've fit better than some of MY pic(k)s.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

I definitely could've substituted Ellen and Markie in place of the Julie Browns, for example (although I do find "Uptown" Julie Brown attractive...Shoot me, alright?;)). No time for crying over spilled milk, though...

That's the one isn't it? One of the ones where they were trying to get through all the cases by midnight? Classic.

".......other pocket.........."

"MY GOD, MAN! GAVEL!!!!!!!!!"

I would definitely buy this series on DVD.

ABSOLUTELY!! This belongs in my collection.

All time favorite episode HAS to be the one where Dan gets the news that his old college buddy, Chip, is getting married and is coming to visit. The look on Dan's face when the attractive woman announces that s/he WAS Chip, but is now Charlene was indescribably hilarious.:D

Beyond that in this particular episode, I don't know which was funnier, Charlene decking macho Dan, or everyone trying to explain to sweet, innocent Bull what happened to Chip.

Harry: Kind of reminds you how you felt when you found out about the Easter Bunny.
Bull: What about the Easter Bunny?

I would say, judging by the look on Harry Anderson's face in this closing shot, that Richard Moll probably ad-libbed his response.

Actually, there was never an episode I disliked about Night Court, but this one was my all-time favorite.

Another great Bull moment: after trashing Harry's office upon learning his girlfriend is a prostitute...

BULL: I figure about $500 should cover it, your honor. (hands Harry the money out of his pocket)
DAN: Bull, you actually carry that much money around with you?!
BULL: People rob banks, Dan.

Then, Mac looks in the office...

MAC: Oh, my dear lord!
HARRY: Is it that bad?
MAC: Did you see The Day After?

Boy, this was a funny show. It needs to be out on DVD as soon as possible.

This show was awesome! I'd love to have all 9 (or was it only 8?) seasons on DVD. I'd give an arm and a leg for it too!! IMO it's the best sitcome ever! I only wish I could get the Biography channel w/o subscribing to the everything package via DirecTV. :frowning:

NOT IN SYNDICATION #2: NIGHT COURT
WHV DVDs vs. late '90s/early 2000s TV edits
a by-episode list

here we go again . . . this time i'm cataloguing all the edits in syndicated NIGHT COURT, to know definitively what the warner DVDs "give back," and whether i still need to archive the TV edit. unfortunately, the DVD episodes are not all broadcast length. lines marked ***** are bits i found in the syndication pack that _don't_ appear on the DVD.

i hope some folks here find this useful, too. the list should be reasonably accurate/reliable, but not 100% so, since this isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. the episodes will be listed when i can, and not necessarily in order. i'll keep revising these posts 'til the whole series is done.

I seem to recall a discussion between Harry and Buddy that didn't make it to dvd, or maybe I missed it?

[dialogue approximation]
Harry: So, now that the cat's out of the bag and you're officially my father, what do want me to call you?
Buddy (enjoying an ice cream cone): Well, now that you've opened the floor-- I've always fancied "Ramone"!

If my math is decent, it looks like the syndication versions were cut down to around 22 minutes, based on your times.
barely 22 minutes each, yeah. the original (late '80s?) syndication pack probably retained an extra 30/40 seconds per ep. these later edits also use an ugly, redesigned "end-credit crunch" which chips away another 10 seconds.

can anyone with the MOD version of S4 confirm whether 4x18 has a running time within a few seconds of 22:32 as per the 2010 sitcomsonline review? the new complete series box makes it 23:39. wondering if they replaced the ep for the reissue or it's just a mistake.

S4E18 - "Caught Red Handed" on the MOD release runs 23:38.

thanks! i was confused, 'cause it was singled it out as running short, and all the other times listed were correct. good to get that cleared up.

with every crazy thing that's happened on this show thus far, don't ask why the opening of season five with an unemployed maniacal harry dressed like a superhero & ready to jump off the brooklyn bridge feels like one of the first big missteps to me. i by far prefer the initial seasons when it was a leeetle more grounded/traditional. can't remember if they continue to lean heavy on the truly ridiculous/outlandish this early.
