A couple of weeks ago I was chosen to be part of the Nielsen Ratings Service. I sent in a survey last month that they sent me (along with a ten dollar bill). They sent me a letter saying I was selected (another ten dollar bill). Then two weeks ago they sent me the equipment (another ten dollar bill). I had to plug in what's called a beacon and a hub plugged into different outlets. Plus, I have to wear a very bulky wristwatch. I don't mind. I've wanted to do this since I was a kid when I first learned about the Nielsens.

Goodbye reality programs!!

At least four times during my lifetime, I kept diaries for both Nielsen and Arbitron, but even the most recent one was a long time ago. Never had a meter though I know they've been using them for decades in various configurations.

Glad to hear they send equipment. About 20+ years ago, a friend of mine was selected, and he had to keep a diary. He was excited to be chosen.

“But wait,” I said, “You don’t even own a TV!”

He laughed and said it was okay, and that every night, he looked at the listings in the newspaper and wrote down what he would have watched.
