NHT Super Zero Xu - OK to overpower? (1 Viewer)

After acquiring some parts and pieces for the audio portion of my home theater a couple years back I happened across a demo pair of NHT ST-4 towers with passive subs and couldn't pass them up due to the attractive price.

Out went the Super One L/R and the Super Center and the Boston Acoustics dipole surrounds. In came the SC-2 center, HDP-2 surrounds and a pair of NHT A-1 subwoofer amps plus the active cross=-over. So far so good and I think it will sound great.

Here's the potential issue: due to power requirements I moved up from my HK-325 AV receiver to an Outlaw 7125 (125 watts x 7) and 970 preamp processor. My original choice for the pair of rear center speakers in the 7.1 configuration was NHT Super Zero Xu. They are already installed and waiting to be wired up. Now I discover that the manufacturer's spec states 100 watts as max power. Am I okay running 125 watts into these or do I risk damaging the speakers?

Your amp will only deliver 125w when you turn the volume all the way up (or close to all the way). During average listening it will barely be pushing 5w/channel. Calibrate everything and don't go nuts with the volume knob and the speakers will be fine.

That's good news - thanks. The room is only 10 x 17 with 9 foot ceilings and the systems is already a bit of overkill for the amount of space. I doubt that I'll ever turn it up past 3 or 4 but will certainly keep the caveat in mind if I ever migrate it to a larger space.
