Almost everything I've read and seen about NHL 2K3 has me totally psyched for this game. I just recently got 2K2 for DC, and while it's not perfect, it is a ton of fun and just screams potential. Just about everyone of my issues with it seems to be addressed to at least some degree with this new version.
This game will be the reason I find some way to get an XBox. I want to play this online badly!
    So, some new information:
Gamespot has a new preview with a bunch of screens, a 3 movies (streaming only for us non subscribers, but the T1 WMP version ran very well for me)
And a new preview at IGN.
(Edit: Forgot the IGN preview was supbcriber only. You can read it HERE)
    I'm most excited about
    - The ESPN presentation looks really slick.
    - Better, beefier sounds
    - Play along the boards (Players can be pinned along the boards and the puck kicks to another player)
    - Better set plays and strategy
    - Bodychecks being toned down a bit.
Another thing I haven't read much about was the rebounds. NHL2K2's rebounds are awful. It's pretty much impossible to score off of them because the goalie either scoops up the puck, or it bounces behind the net. If you actually do get a rebound, the plays doesn't shoot it fast enough to get it in the empty net, or is knocked off the puck right away. There is a bit in the IGN preview about scoring on a rebound with a quick wrist shot, so I hope that it is better this year.
I really hope this series kicks hockey games into high gear and starts to eat into EA's stranglehold.

I'm hoping this game is great too. I need a hockey game for my xbox...I was going to pick up NHL 2003 until I read about the slow frame rates...just pathetic

Yep, after Unreal Championship, this is my number 1 most anticipated Xbox Live game.

Neither can I! I have been playing the EA line for a very long time now and am switching to the NHL 2K3 line this year due to EA's lack of making a better game for this year.

I can't wait to see 2k3. I've always bought the EA NHL series previously but I want something more realistic. I remember the old Sega Sports NHL games and they were great.

I am still waiting for them to introduce a practice mode. Have your team practice on off days. Then your team can get better or worse depending on the level and amount of practice. Of course you could have certain players skip practice so that they can rest or your superstars don't have to go if they don't want to. Then you decide whether your practices would be mainly drills or scrimmages or a good combo of both. I think this would be a great addition to the game.

I'd like a practice mode so that I can personally get better, let alone my team.

Maybe an HTF NHL2K3 league is in order once xbox live is up and running. I for one am really looking forward to this title.

I'd be interested in joining, or even help run it.... but I don't even know when I'll be getting an XBox.

Any idea if this will support 720p like NBA 2k3?

    Presentation
Love the replays and the ESPN overlays look great, but there's plenty of choices that will have you scratching your head. 7.0
    Graphics
Not bad, but certainly not of the quality seen in other Sega Sports games. Good animations and solid replays but not enough variety in the faces. 7.0
    Sound
Good two-man crew and the crowds aren't bad, but the commentary isn't as smooth as it could be. 7.0
    Gameplay
One hell of a hockey engine that plays as both sim and arcade game in one. Definitely the pinnacle of hockey excellence. 9.0
    Lasting Appeal
A decent franchise mode coupled with compelling gameplay and online play? Bring it. 9.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 8.9

Side note. How can something be the pinnacle of hockey excellence and only get a 9.0?
