Well, we all figured this. I guess just like Tarzan I can wait for the SE.

That's good news. I was holding out on the single disc in hope of a special edition release later.

Glad that there are idicataions of a Special Edtion release of this. I'll, of course, wait for that.

It would be nice if they indicated that it was comming in the original press release. From this source, I must take the news with a grain of salt.

This is getting ridiculous. When a studio plans a special edition, they need to wait for it to be finished so they can release both at the same time. That way, there will be a lot less angered DVD fans.

I think they are rushing Stitch out so that they can release it's DTV sequel and subsequently start the cartoon series.

I'll buy both because I love this film so much. I have a candidate for hand-me-down already if the features are all represented in the future release.

Well, I would love a true SE release, but I will
buy the current version, and then, like someone already
mentioned, pass it down to a friend when the better one
    arrives.

Okay...so I am a strange one here...but this film, Lilo and Stitch, and Paramount's Friday the 13th series are about the only films that I would be happy to be double dipped on.

I intend on pre-ordering mine at the Disney store, I have to have those prints, so either way, the single or a collector's edition...it will be mine.

The 'Atlantis' DTV movie has been killed.

3 or 4 eps of the cancelled TV series, which is a SEQUEL to the DTV movie, will be released as a DTV movie.

And the events of the killed movie lead into the TV series, so it isn't going to make a hell of a lot of sense.

I'm not sure I understand why they killed both. The movie was a meager success at the box office, but I thought it found it's audience on video?

I saw it theatrically and loved it. In fact, it made me move up my surround sound purchase from Lion King to it.

Thanks Michael - a good read. I still don't understand it.

A ride at a theme park is just that, a ride. If it's lame it won't generate any buzz and if it's cool everyone will want to ride it. And the Atlantis ride sounded cool. I'm sure people would want to go on it having seen the movie or not.

Wouldn't that then help boost the popularity of the film in home video aftersales?

Same for the TV series. 'Gargoyles', 'Recess' and 'Doug' never had movies when they started but were/are popular, so why should 'Team Atlantis' be any different? Hell, if you're going to use that 'logic' say hello to 'Snow White: The Series' on ABC next fall.

How do studio execs get paid so much money for their illogical decision making?

I've been saying there'll be a "Lilo & Stitch" SE since I saw the movie at a press junket two weeks before it came out. The amount of stuff it seemed these people had prepared was overwhelming. Just look at that great tome they created on the making of the movie.

By the way, I believe the single-disc edition of "Emperor's New Groove" had at least some of the deleted scenes from the two disc edition. I do like the DTV and television show theory, especially considering how the creators and directors of "Lilo & Stitch" emphasized in interviews they had minimal association with those projects, which they claimed to like, but wanted to emphasize were not THEIR projects.

Back on topic, I have some news from one of the mouse's representatives. When I went to pick up MONSTERS INC from the Disney Store, the gentleman behind the counter said they would be taking pre-orders for LILO & STITCH soon. (He mentioned the date but I didn't make a note of it.) He was very clear that there would be a 1-disc at $19.99 and a 2-disc at $29.99. I will get more details when I pickup B&B next week.

    Loved this movie!!!
