Thanks to your help, I've narrowed my search to these two.
What I need help understanding is how a VCR dubbing is implemented in these two units.
I have a Super VHS vcr and a Analog to Firewire i/o box.
I would like to be able to do these things:
-record from dish receiver to VCR
-Record from dish Receiver to Firewire capture box
-record from VCR to Firewire capture box
-record from firewire capture box to VCR
-record from front input to VCR or Firewire capture box
Looking at the back of the Onkyo this seems possible:

But the back of the Newcastle confuses me:

Are there any thorough reviews of the Onkyo that I can read?
    Thanks for your help!
    ~Jay

    Jay,

Have you looked at the manual? Onkyo has them online in PDF format at their website. I just downloaded the 898 one myself.
