I have a Sony Str-DE975 in my bedroom and have just replaced my old speakers (15 plus years) with my speakers from my living room (Infinity Entra Three towers). These speakers are not nearly as loud as the old ones were. I ususally listen to DVD's at level 28 or so. With these speakers, I have to turn it up to 32 or so. Is this just the configuration of the speakers or might there be something wrong??

Maybe the old speakers were more efficient by a few dBs. It doesn't seem like a big difference, nothing to be concerned about. If there was something wrong with the speakers you would hear popping, rubbing or something like that.

Speakers vary in efficience SIGNIFICANTLY.

Most likely your new speakers are not as efficient. Keep in mind that this has NO BEARING as to the quality of the speakers.
