Newbie here, although I am 70 years old lol. I have purchased a Samsung plasma along with a Samsung Digital Theater system model ht-tz512. Not a great system probably but good enough for just listening to my TV hopefully. My problem or question is this; I have a cable box that is required for certain channels. I have a HDMI cable running from cable box to TV and TV works great there with no theater system installed. This theater system has a DVD converter (I think converter is the term) with a HDMI jack. My Samsung TV has two HDMI jacks 1 & 2. Can I purchase another HDMI cable and hook by DVD to the TV with a second HDMI cable or how do I get the sound from my theater system to work? I called Best Buy and the guy said I needed to get the sound from the DVD to my TV maybe using the red/white analog cables. I tried some of those combinations but nothing happened sound wise. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

From your description and the Samsung Home Theater details at the Circuit City web site, you connect your DVD player to the TV via an HDMI cable into the TV's HDMI 2 jack. Since the DVD player is integrated into the receiver, the audio will work fine. To get audio from the cable box, you need to connect it to the Samsung Home Theater receiver via a Toslink cable. That will provide full surround sound when watching movies.

A few things to remember. Buy your cables from Monoprice. No need to pay $100 for an HDMI cable when you can order it for $5. Same with the Toslink (optical) cable. Samsung rates your sound system at 1,200w. This is the IHBL rating (if hit by lightning). Other features look nice and if you like the sound, that is all that matters. Buy a Harmony remote. It will make switching from source to source much easier.

Thanks Robert for the reply. I will get a Toslink cable and see what happens.
