Newbie Dolby Headphone question... (1 Viewer)

My interest was recently piqued in Dolby Headphone, but upon researching the technology, I learned that apparently there are no native-to-the-U.S. ways of obtaining the technology, save for a particular reciever (I believe an Onkyo?) that's extremely expensive. I don't want a new reciever, just the outboard processor for Dolby Headphone. Does such a beast exist? Near as I can figure, from Dolby's own website, Philips makes an external processor (the SBC HP1500), but it seems only available in the UK.

1. Why are there no DH amps in the US?

2. Is it possible to import an amp (like the SBC HP1500) from the UK and still have it work in the US on a Region 1 system?

Thanks for any assistance...

A new Pioneer unit will be introduced at CES, model SE-DIR800c. It is now in the shops in Japan. We're hoping the same will be the case for the new Philips units.
