Newbie Connection Question (1 Viewer)

Greetings from a Newbie (sort of.. haven't posted in a long long long time.)

We recently swapped out our DVR box (old Scientific Atlantic) for a new Spectrum 201. Old configuration was HDMI from DVR box to Sony STR-KS370 for surround sound. I know the Sony is a small unit, but it was a gift from our late son, and I would be hard pressed to get rid of it.

Now, my question > How come I can't use the same connection from the Spectrum 201 to the Sony? No audio or video will pass through. I am completely baffled. The Spectrum tech who brought out the new box tried to tell me wife that it was incompatible, but DVD's Blue-Rays, etc., and the former DVR all did fine.

Can anyone help"?

Does the new Spectrum 201 work when connected directly to the TV? If so, then it may be a copy protection issue with the Sony.

It may simply be an issue of old HDMI equipment vs. new. Often they don’t “play nice” together.
