This site is great. I am finishing my basement and like to run the speaker wires first through the walls. I have a mid sized Receiver and surround Speakers (Kenwood), which I want to use first and slowly adding pieces together later. At least I want to finish the speaker wiring through walls, before sheet rocking. What is the ideal speaker wire for this ( 12/14/16 gauge)?. What are the specifications, I should look out for?.
I am looking to do wiring for 6:2 system and double wiring, if possible. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks
    Hari

Just get a giant spool of 12 gauge and run that everywhere. Effective, cheap, and it's what most everyone does.

Depending on where you are you may need to run in-wall rated wire, which will be more expensive. I think our electrical inspector didn't care, so no reason to spend more.
