THX is a standard for sound and sight. This starts in the studio where they make the stuff, kind of like a UL approved stamp For D.D.,DTS D.D.ex DTSes etc. Your gear must have the proper soft ware to decode this or it will just basicly default to the closest thing it can, provided that you set it to do that, THX means nothing unless all of your gear is THX certified including your sound treatment, when it comes to sound.

Jared,

If you're asking how it is determined which video promo trailers are shown, it is simply a matter of format.

If a disc is THX certified, it includes the THX introduction trailer.

If a disc has DTS sound, it includes a DTS audio trailer before the feature.

Some Dolby Digital discs have a Dolby trailer before the feature, but because DD is the standard format for DVD, it has become a bit moot.

So, if I understand your question- the Disc cannot analyze your system- rather it simply has promo trailers built in before the feature to advertise the features of the disc.

actually, thx is geared towards sound - the audio experience. sorry...just being anal...
Originally, yes. But at least since the introduction of the THX LD program in 1993, the visual element has been part of the package.
