I am not a big New Year's Eve person -- never have been. My idea of a great New Year's Eve is get home early, have a great meal and then curl up and watch some movies. This year, I will have some family members staying with me and I was trying to think of some movies that are actually themed around the New Year's holiday. The only one I know of is Holiday Inn, which I have never actually seen. Are there any others out there? We have Xmas movies, Easter movies, Thanksgiving movies, but I am drawing a blank on New Year's movies.

I appreciate any suggestions any one might have.

Thanks,

Deborah

I also immediately thought of when Harry Met Sally.

Also, a portion of Trading Places takes place on New Year's Eve.

Thanks, Jeremy. It has been so long since I have seen that movie, I didn't even remember it's New Year's connection!

Billy Wilder's masterpiece "The Apartment" takes place over the holidays and the final scene is on New Year's Eve/Day.

I have to second When Harry Met Sally. That has to be the ultimate romantic New Year's flick. The Apartment was also a very good choice. Forrest Gump also comes to mind, since it has a scene celebrating the holiday.

Well, this is pretty off-topic of me, but The Sci-Fi Channel always dominates every New Year's Eve at my house (instead of New Year's Eve-themed movies) -- the annual "Twilight Zone" New Year's Marathon usually creeps up on almost 48 hours worth of TZ goodness! If I'm not out on the town, that's where I'm at.

I'm not a New Year's Eve person either.

For no particular reason I like watching Magnolia. I usually don't watch Xmas or Easter themed movies just because it is that time of year. I usually reserve that time to revist my all-time favorites.

The Coen Bros' THE HUDSUCKER PROXY (1994) and Capra's MEET JOHN DOE (1941) would also be appropriate New Year's viewing.
