Many thanks to Mr_Lowery for spotting the following DVDs that have just appeared on play.com:
    • Hitchcock: The Complete Box Set (03/10/2005)
    • Psycho: 45th Anniversary Edition (17/10/2005)
    • Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season 1 (6 Discs) (31/10/2005)
I've not been able to find confirmation for any of these DVDs on other sites - if anybody spots anything, please shout!

...looks like October is going to be the best month of the year for Hitchcock fans! [IMG]

Okay, now I'm wondering whether to cancel my order from amazon.com for that new Universal Hitchcock boxset...

£79.99 for the "Hitchcock: The Complete Box Set" is a little steep though.

You're right about the price - most US sites seem to have the "Masterpiece Collection" for around £50.

Given the price of "The Complete Box Set", I think it's reasonable to assume it must be the Universal titles. If it is, then there's still no news about the transfers - e.g. will we get proper widescreen releases of "The Birds", "Marnie", "Torn Curtain" and "Topaz"?

I wonder if "Psycho: 45th Anniversary Edition" will be the same disc (or discs) that are in either R1s "Masterpiece Collection" or R2s "The Complete Collection". If it IS indeed exactly the same disc then why not release it the same day as the boxset?

Lee_eel - there's currently two different UK releases of "Psycho":

    1) the single DVD release (as part of "The Hitchcock Collection")

    2) the disc that comes as part of the Psycho Collection I-IV

I've yet to see the latter, but (according to DVD Beaver), it's a NTSC to PAL transfer and suffers from ghosting.

However, the "Psycho Collection" DVD comes with the excellent "The Making of Psycho" documentary, whereas the "Hitchcock Collection" DVD's only extra is a trailer.

Hopefully the "45th Anniversary" DVD will have a brand new remaster transfer and all the extras too [IMG]

Yeah, both of the Psycho releases in R2 are pretty shoddy IMO.

I'm not sure what to do about this new R2 set though, I might just ship the R1 box set over since it's shaping up to be pretty awesome and Hitchcock DVDs have a tendency to get messed up in R2.

Sad to say, but I'll probably be buying both sets just so I can add the details to the site a.s.a.p [IMG]

There's nothing sad about that, your website is awesome & I use it all the time when picking up Hitchcock DVDs. Keep up the good work [IMG]

So, there's no more news on R2s Hitchcock sets?

I'm really quite interested in this new "Psycho: 45th Anniversary Edition" because this is the first I've heard about such a disc...

Also, I'm still wondering whether R2s "Hitchcock: The Complete Box Set" is going to be exactly the same as R1s "The Masterpiece Collection"... i.e. same packaging, same titles with the same content.

It's also very cool that where getting "Alfred Hitchcock Presents S1" on six single sided discs. R1 is getting it on double sided discs from what I can gather...

    Hi Dale

Still no official confirmation, so the only info we have right now is the details play.com have posted (which might not be correct).

Having said that, I'd much prefer 6 single sided discs for "Hitchcock Presents".

Me to Dave, I'd rather pay the extra pounds to get the extra discs.

Of course, the Hitchcock collection in R1 might be using double sided discs & since Universal in R2 doesn't do that type of disc, we might be getting double the amount of discs in our complete collection (or at least the DVDs in R1 that are double sided should be two discs in R2), maybe that's why our Complete Hitchcock Collection is priced so much higher?
