Press Release New Twentieth Century Fox Television DVD Titles Coming Soon (September 20 2018)

One must really be unrealistically optimistic or else downright delusional to think Fox would ever put out an older show.

 

Especially since everything new and current is what sells for them right now, I take it?

 

To them "old shows" means MASH, MASH, and more MASH.

 

And that, in my opinion, is the biggest issue (even above potential low sales). We are at a point where the execs that make these type of release decisions are simply too young and too uninformed about classic TV. Many of them would have no clue about their studio’s catalog of tv series from the 50’s and 60‘s.

We’ve all heard the stories about how some series were only considered for release because someone in the offices at the time (even employees that were simple secretaries) liked the show as a kid and advocated for it. As each day passes and these older series sink further and further into the sunset, less and less execs have knowledge of them. No knowledge means no advocacy, and no thought of release. This, I firmly believe, is the biggest problem. I’m not suggesting it’s the only problem. Nor am I saying these older series are sitting in vaults as huge, untapped money makers for the studios. But without knowledge of a series, there’s no way it’s ever going to be considered for release.

I totally agree with Gary's post above. Most TV execs today wouldn't know a classic show if it hit them in the face...totally ignorant.
The upcoming release by FOX are IMHO, crap shows. I haven't purchased a TV series DVD in years and when I did it was a classic...The Rifleman...not crap shows like Bob's Burgers or Better Things.
C'mon all you TV execs wake up. You have a treasure trove of classics just gathering dust on the shelf....share them.

 

A lesson that CBS has learned in spades, them having released quite a few classics, some on their own, some with VEI (some adulterated in one way or another as well, but at least released)!

 

Don't be sorry, Gary. It's true and has been Fox's attitude towards the bulk of their catalog, both movies and TV series. We all saw what it took to get The Mary Tyler Moore Show unstalled and it took a distributor like Shout! to finally get other, highly desired, series released to completion. It took Timeless (OK, really Shout!) to re-release Daniel Boone properly.

From what I've observed over the past few decades I'm amazed that Fox is still around. They frequently act like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing and appear to have made more missteps than successes. That seemingly goes all the way back to the 60s and the disaster of Cleopatra and arguably goes back even further.

 

It is for the same reason why we need to depend on VEI and others to release the very short-lived Paramount Television shows, if CBS won't do so alone.

They can't even finish shows that were hits when they were new.

 

Just checked Amazon. LA TO VEGAS is a $39.98 list, but THE ORVILLE is exactly half that. WTF?

LA to Vegas is a burn on demand set, The Orville is a traditionally pressed, wide release set.

The traditionally pressed sets that will wind up in stores have always been priced cheaper than the burned MOD sets.

 

Okay, thanks. I'd just assumed ORVILLE was also MOD.

BTW, I'm finding LA much cheaper at other sides.
