I've only heart "Sorta Fairytale" (being played on the Top 40 stations several times a day) and gosh, I hate to even hear myself say this, but it left me a little cold. [IMG] Maybe I need a few more listens, or to hear it on a real stereo.
I'm not ordinarily very critical of Ms. Amos, maybe she has been channeling a little more Robert Plant than I would like lately. After all, her roots are in art rock and Zepplin is her muse... who can blame her?
It's kind of like when the Red House Painters broke away from 4AD and Ivo's production style and shed their gloom and down for full-on prog rock. It's jarring, but it's a natural evolution for the artist.
I don't have a favorite Tori Amos album, but I thought that Venus and Back was stellar, that Choirgirl was rich and textured, Pele was underrated, Under the Pink is just haunting, and Earthquakes was a violently passionate excorcism that is now a modern day classic.
Let me know what you think when your get a good listen to all the tracks, I'd like to keep an open mind.
