    Hi-
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what the best deal for a speaker setup less than $500 would be. I know this is a low budget, but its all i can afford [IMG] Thanx
    [edit]
I forgot to add i want it to be a 5 speaker setup. Thanks for any help.

For $500, you would probably do fine with the JBL NSP-1 and a Sony SA-WM40 sub. This is certainly not an audiophile setup, but for the price, it will do very well. What will they be powered with?

Thanks for the info, I'll check into those. I'm using a Sony Receiver Model: STR-DB830. I got it back in '99.

Look on Yahoo shopping for the WM40, I've seen it as low as $138! E-tronics seemed to be fairly respected and has it for $149 + shipping.

    I agree with albert,

Just add a PB12 in J&R for $300 shipping included, and you are set for $550

Might want to look at fluance. They have the SX-HTB setup w/ 2 full range 2-way towers, a 2-way center, and 2 way surrounds, all timbre matched, for $259. All speakers are bi-wirable and bi-ampable with gold 5 way binding posts. The mains include carpet spikes. The mains and center are sheilded for video. You could then add the sub of your choice (PB-10, PB-12, WM40) and come un under $500. The Fluance stuff looks good and solid and i've read good reviews on this board.

I heard the Energy 5.1 (old model) was highly regarded. It has been replaced by the 5.2s but I think you can still find the 5.1s for about $500. The sub alone in the set sells for about $250.
