I'd like some advice from the knowledgable folks on this forum. My 12 to 14 year old ONKYO TX-SV727 receiver has recently started acting up in the surround sound mode. After it's been on for fifteen minutes or so the Dolby Surround sound starts cutting out, and you have to switch to bypass. Now the plot thickens... I am in the proess of buying a Sony 55" HDTV and I noticed that they have a $100 rebate available if you combine a TV with a receiver purchase before the end of the month. I'm thinking of replacing the Onkyo with a Sony STR-DE997, to catch the rebate. How would you folks compare that Sony with say the Pioneer 1014 that I see so much written about here ?
Other ideas ?
Many Thanks,
Bob

I'd pass on the Sony regardless of price, the Pioneer would surely outperform it.I think I'd look at HK and Denon if you're serious about sound, all imo.
