Well, the price wars have claimed another victim. I went ahead and bought a PS/2 this weekend. This is really kinda weird since I was one of the people camped out at my local Wal-Mart to buy an XBOX on opening night.

I had the XBOX for a month or so and sold it once I finished HALO. I really enjoyed the XBOX but I didn't think I would have time to play since I had a baby on the way(July).

The $199.00 prices had me tempted to buy another XBOX. It seems to me that the wait between GOOD XBOX titles has been few and far between since the release. I had the same problem with the N64 when it first came out. I bought it, finished Mario 64 and then sold 4 months later because I was sick that no new good games were being released.

I guess the larger library of games for the PS/2 lured me in. I rented Gran Turismo 3 from the video store and it is AWESOME. I can see that the graphics aren't quite up to the XBOX, but they are still excellent. I have no regrets purchasing the PS/2.

Besides, at $199.00, if more quality games come out for the XBOX soon it won't be that big of a deal to pick one up.

Shawn:

It's all about the games, I agree. For starters, try these fantastic PS2 titles:

ICO

Devil May Cry

Rumble Racing (very fun racing game)

Final Fantasy X (of course)

Drakan: The Ancients' Gates (great adventure game)

Jak & Daxter (fantastic platformer)

Rayman 2 (another fantastic platformer)

...enjoy.

Those are great games JoshF but you forgot a couple of definite must buys and a few must buys

Metal Gear Solid II

Grand Theft Auto III

SSX Tricky

Virtua Fighter IV

Spider-man (I'm a big fan of the character!)

Timespliters II

Medal of Honor II

I'm with you Shawn, other than Halo and maybe a couple others I just don't see the reason to own the system yet. I'm sure as time goes on they will have more games to choose from but for now I have to stick with my PS2. There are games available for almost every taste and the look totally awesome if not quite up to the X-box's level. I'll probably pick one up sometime, especially since the price reduction but for now I am very happy with my PS2.

Grand Theft Auto III, definately. I don't even know how long ago it came out but I'm still playing it. Almost finished with a 100% game.

Yeah, I am going to rent GTA3 as soon as I take my other games back to Hollywood Video. I like to try out games before buying them.

It's not that the XBOX isn't totally cool. It is. They just need some more quality games before I buy another one. The games that I liked(played) were:

Halo

NFL Fever

Speaking of my local Hollywood Video. They SUCK. Not only do they no longer alphabetize their DVDs, but they can't seem to keep their games straight either. At least 3 times I grabbed a box from the PS2 section and it was actually a PS1 game.

I tried Frequency but I can't stand No Doubt. :P
You also have access to all the great PS1 games, so don't forget those: Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear: Solid, Tekken 3, Dance Dance Revolution (tons of fun if you buy the dance pads and don't mind sweating a bit), Xenogears, and many many more.

Xenogears is a very good game if you like that style (as I do) just good luck finding a copy... it's very rare.
And if you like RPGs don't you might as well get FF 7-9 :)
I was just at Software Etc and they had 178 PS2 games on hand!!!!! That just seemed crazy, won't be long before there are 500 PS2 games just like there are > 500 PS1 games.

Xenogears isn't as hard to find as it once was - rumour is it received another print run recently as the likes of EB & GameStop started to stock it online in decent numbers (around the time of FFT's re-release). Still goes for $40 or something though.

Let me reaffirm what's been said: Xenogears rocks!

The quest is long, and the character development is excellent. Even though FF has more realistic graphics, I prefer the free-roaming, jumping, exploring that Xenogears offers with its anime-like graphics. And of course, fighting with and upgrading your Mech is just plain fun.

I suspect Xenosaga should rule as well... I have the OST (Original Soundtrack) and the music rules! Its out in Japan now... but we poor saps have to wait until next year to get it :frowning:
O another game that looks awsome in Enchanced mode on the PS2: Vagrent Story one of the fine games that came out in the summer of Square a few years back.

Vagrant Story is fantasic, as are Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. But this guy might not be into geeky RPG's like we are. :)
Speaking of geeky games, anyone play Drakan for PS2? It's quite fun.
