Nice setup! What is your opinion of the Hi-res line of speakers. I assume that you like them since more are listed in the upgrade section of your site, but compared to other brands price ranges what do you think of them overall (sound, build quality)? I started a thread almost a year back about Acoustic Research at avsforum and there was very little activity and I couldn't find anywhere to audition them so I ended up getting some superzero's and making a sealed isobaric w/12"ers, but I still have a soft spot for those. BTW, I was inches away from getting three AR9's and four AR17's for surrounds.

Just remember great things are both loved and hated, enjoy that rug!

Lewis,

Frisk em? You betcha.. I don't want to find out that the
suitcase has a handle. If you know what I mean! :)

Jason,

Nah I am not wound up... I think it's funny also. The news
is best in 2 channel!

Joel,

I think it all depends on what your ears tell you. In the
original retail price range ($999.00 for the pair of AR9's)
I think there are numerous other great speakers to choose
from. I am not saying I wouldn't have choose AR at retail
prices but there are certainly other brands worth giving a
through look over (like NHT). But I paid way less than the
regular retail prices when I bought my AR9's ($550.00 a
pair) and at that price there isn't any competition other
than DIY speakers.

I think they sound fantastic and have only gotten better as
I have supplied them with more and better power and got
them well positioned and the room treated. The sound is not
harsh at all (unlike most Ti tweeters) the mids are very
smooth and do voices justice! Diana Krall sounds awesome!

The build quality of the cabinetry has most of the other
mainstream companies beat hands down. Using 3/4" thick
walls with heavy bracing throughout and weighing in at 65
pounds each they are hardly lightweights. I wish they would
have had real veneers that is my only major gripe with them.

If I couldn't get AR Hi Res what would I get? More than
likely, Onix Rockets. (Same mid's gorgeous finish and great
price)

Has this turned into a Carpet Joke thread? Shame I've been missing out.

"The carpet is manly yes, but Brett likes it too"

"Pink is the color that masks protein stains the best"

"The carpet is bright to keep his eyes off his stone age 4:3"

"After spending thousand$ on his home theater, Brett still finds himself watching the weather channel and staring at a freeze frame of Kate Hudson."

"The two manly muscle car engines on the TV only mask Brett's true color.."

"WAF factor? We don't need no stinkin waf factor"

"Not only is it pink, but it's scented too"

"Raspberry sherbert carpet: $45 a yard. Getting teased by the entire home theater forum: Pricelss."

Ahhhh brett, you know I'm just playing with you lad. I think the carpet is very unique and it takes serious balls to pull the trigger on something like that. It reminds me of a commercial home theater and adds a warm cozy feel. I painted my speakers scarlet fever red afterall.

I thought there were some phenomenally attractive prices for carpeting here and should go well with the Best of Abba collection.

Two questions:

1) Where is the sub? I REAAALY think you should get SVS to make you a sub with a one-of-a-kind matching covering material.

2) When are you going to break in the carpet?

;)

ps- man this is like my pet peeve of glitter pens. Not too much more to a glitter, flourescent, scratch-n-sniff scented neon green carpet huh? :D

Brett, i like the carpet but in the picture it makes the wall look greenish or is that just the digicam ?
when are you gonna post pics on your web site? it'd be neat to get another wide angle shot of your room to see how its totally changed from the rock wall.
Also, your new rack will look fab in there. with the pink :) carpet and the space age audio rack it almost might have the Barbarella feel to it. :)
"Looks like porn star carpet to me" xactly!
But where's the black light?

Geno,

The walls are done in Behr Premium "Summer Tan" which is
actually a very dark tan. The Levolor blinds are "Sandstone"
which is about 3 shades lighter than the walls, the ceiling
is Behr Premium "Feather" (Pure Titanium White with about
3% Magenta added) and of course the carpet is a deep rasberry
color not the pink it appears to be.

I am certainly going to take new pictures (to shut some
people up!) but not untill the new rack is in place. When I
take the new images I will make sure to calibrate the camera's
light metering to the lighting in my livingroom so I don't
get any more of this pink carpet crap.
