While this Pal set is a Must for its Extras which are fantastic ,most from
the earlier Region 4 Version.
But I found the Criterion Version which isn't 16x9 the better version of
The Directors Cut,so we still have to wait for another 16x9 version

I have the new 3-disc set. The transfer of the director's cut looks identical to the Australian and German editions that I used to own. The transfer of the original cut looks like an old (mid-1990s) digital master that was 1.66:1 non-anamorphic that was scaled-up to 1.66:1 anamorphic, despite what the disclaimer before the film says. It's watchable. I do find it curious that prime 35mm elements of the 110-minute 1975 cut don't exist, though. I prefer the shorter, more ambiguous and elliptical cut, but it was great to see the original cut after almost fifteen years. The documentary, ported over from the Oz set is excellent, as are the other extras. All that is missing is a Weir commentary, but he isn't prone to doing them. The documentary covers everything and this isn't a film to talk over, describe and disect. This is the definitive release until the (Criterion?) Blu-Ray comes along.

I have the Criterion edition and like it fine, but I want to see the original film I saw in the theaters again, and to compare it, to the director's re-edit. That's why I bought the region 2. Peter Weir always has stimulating ideas.

Appreciate the heads-up.

Well if you can Play NTSC The Criteron non 16x9 is the best version I seen
(I haven't seen the German one)and I compared them side by side.

as for the extras the region 4 version has trailors not on the new three
dvd set,the new set has the cut scenes in a extra on the third dvd
taken from the same 16x9 source as the second dvd which has the whole
Original cut.
