The third LOTR trailer is set to be aired during the Monday night season premiere of Angel on the WB. It will not be shown in theaters initially. Also of note - Angel will be shown in letterbox format this season.

Of course, only a perfect creation of Our Lord Whedon has the power to contain the virtually equal perfection of Tolkein's work

...And it is awesome. If the movie holds up, then it will be an outrage if this doesn't get a best picture oscar. On other news, Lordoftherings.net has switched back to Apple. They have the new trailer, but their site is swamped, so good luck trying to download it. I know I couldn't.

Man, it's just getting better and better. What a trailer! Did anyone catch the balrog's foot at the end? It looks like it's made of molten rock or fire or something. Whatever it is it's brutally cool, can't wait to see the rest of it! And god bless 'em for switching to quicktime. I don't think I could have born it if this exceptional trailer had been released in real time. December 19th can't come soon enough!

WOW! Great trailer!! I'm re-reading the books (again) and man...you just know each and every event that is taking place, just by the look of the scenery or people. Amazing. I have to wait a week after release to see it

That was freakin' awsome! I was giggling to myself like a ninny after it ended, it looked so great. I'm not even like a big LotR buff, or anything. But that looked amazing.

Uhh, mirrors would really be a good thing. I wonder why apple doesn't use akamai for distribution this time. :) Perhaps they refused as they awaited the storm on the trailer.

It is way too early to be thinking about an oscar. The movie's not out for more another 2+ months. However, I'm betting it won't get an oscar nomination. Just a hunch. I wouldn't get your hopes up for that. But I must admit, even though I could care less for LOTR, I'm intrigued.

Thanks Dominik!
Hubert,
I'm just curious, if you could care less about LOTR then why are you posting in the LOTR threads?

I said I was intrigued.

You LOTR fans are so touchy and defensive. So worried someone's gonna say something negative. It's really funny when someone brings up Star Wars. Chill out people. This is a movie.

Impossible to download at the moment. I wonder if I should bother? Is it one of those trailers that shows way too much, as one poster above says?
I'd rather NOT see any more, as I am there opening weekend, no matter what.

I had some some problems with the trailer. First, I didn't think some of the FX looked all that great. The shot of the boats on the Great River looked particularly bad. Also, the more I see, the more I'm starting to see changes that I don't like all that much. The first one was Arwen at the ford. I knew it she was replacing Glorfindel, but I had hoped it would be just a replacement of one character for another. From this trailer, she's in the ford with Frodo. In the book, it's Frodo by himself, practically attacking. That's a great scene and shows alot about Frodo and how the Ring is effecting him. Having Arwen in the ford lessens Frodo for me a little. Another change I wasn't too thrilled with, is very minor, all things considered, but still irked me. In the book, Pippin drops a stone into the well. It's intentional. He's drawn to the well for some reason that's never explained. He also does what alot of people do...he tosses a stone in to see how deep it is. It's very human. It also shows how young he still is compared to the other hobbits. The bumbling accident didn't sit well with me. Am I nitpicking? Probably. The thing about trailers is that you can't get a feel for the flow of a film, and it's tough to understand why such changes were made. When you see the finished product, hopefully it will work. I'm starting to get a little worried though.
