MCA released Jimi Hendrix Experience Smash Hits on CD on Tuesday, and Best Buy and Circuit City have it for $6.99 this week! I bought a copy tonight at Circuit City. The disc was marked $11.99, but it rang up for $6.99. It's a great disc. The sound is quite good in my opinion. A green sticker on the plastic wrapper says:

Does the new edition still have the CD+Graphics that were on the Warner version? That's still the best use of that technology that I've seen, though I'm not sure if Mr. Hendrix would have approved were he alive to see it.

The original Reprise version had 2 more tracks, but I don't know how the sound quality compares...

I too would like to know which tracks are missing, as I don't have the original Reprise version.

Jimi Hendrix releases more albums than any other artist...
    and he's dead!

Believe it or not, I still have been meaning to pick up more Hendrix, particularly the later stuff. Yep, I actually haven't "gotten around" to Hendrix.

I don't know, Mike. I bet Elvis or Miles Davis or John Coltrane or the Grateful Dead could give Jimi a run for his money in the "We're dead but prolific" department. Besides, all of those artists release alot of box sets every year. Jimi's relegated to single disc releases, the poor guy.

Just picked this up today for 6.99 at Best Buy. I gave it a listen on the car ride home, and was very impressed with the quality of the disc. A definite improvement over the non-remastered Hendrix that I own.

    Larry,

    Thanks for the information.

    Mike,

No Hendrix? You have labor to produce! Seriously though, Smash Hits for $6.99 at Best Buy or Circuit City would be a good place to start with Hendrix. Note, however, that the sale price is only good through today (Saturday).
