This is JBL's newest sub and retails for 699.00. J&R has it for 499.00 with free shipping. It looks REALLY nice, and I just wanted to know if anyone owns one, and if so, how does it compare to other subs in its price range.

Thanks,

Reg

search. I own one and posted a topic on it. In a few words, a very good sounding sub.

Reggie - here's AlbertH thread!
I have not auditioned it so I can't comment on the JBL S120PII. Here's JBL dba newsline release. Highlites from the article ...
The Studio Series S120PII subwoofer features JBL's Class-D digital-amplifier technology, which uses digital-switching amplifier technology for exceptionally high power output with high efficiency and dramatically reduced distortion. The S120PII's high-power, 400-watt RMS amplifier and 12-inch PolyPlas driver deliver authoritative, extended bass with outstanding transient attack and pitch definition, even when reproducing movie soundtracks with demanding low-frequency content at high-volume listening levels.
The JBL S120PII incorporates a premium-quality 12-inch driver for clean, articulate, musically accurate bass response. The driver is manufactured using the newest formulation of JBL's proprietary PolyPlas polymer-coated cellulose fiber cone material, which combines the sonic neutrality of paper with the added rigidity and damping of the PolyPlas treatment to dampen internal resonances, provide a smooth frequency response with tighter bass and allow higher volume playback without distortion.
The voice coils are constructed using oversized fiberglass formers, for increased efficiency and power-handling capability. The driver's unique HeatScape™ vented polepiece motor structure provides efficient heat dissipation for increased power handling and accurate response even during high-volume playback, and the voice coil incorporates JBL's Symmetrical Field Geometry™ (SFG™), which reduces to an absolute minimum distortion caused by flux modulation.
The driver frame is made from high-strength, nonmagnetic cast aluminum for high stability and improved stability with less energy loss, and the driver is mounted in a forward-firing, ported, nonresonant enclosure that delivers maximum sound-pressure level in a compact configuration. The S120PII subwoofer employs JBL's FreeFlow™ port technology, with a specially flared bass port tuned to the driver and cabinet for high efficiency and bass response down to 22Hz.

As a side note, you're within $50 + S/H for an SVS 25-31PCi, and its very, very impressive speaking from experience. Just a thought ...
